The Brand

The meaning of the actual word Ògúnlọ́wọ̀ in Yoruba language is:

Ògún,the god of war and iron

ní - has, have, own

ọ̀wọ̀ - honour, respect

In Yoruba mythology, Ògún is the god of iron, war, and labour who taught humanity how to build with axes. Ògún is a powerful spirit and warrior who is said to have descended from heaven, and is considered one of the earliest divinities in the Yoruba pantheon. He is also known as "Ogun Onire" and is widely feared and respected.

I had a desire to curate a brand that showcased the uniqueness of Lagos, Nigeria and all her vibrancy. I wanted to appreciate the identity of West Africa through language. The metal lettering and logo on our vessels underscores the brands yoruba heritage and is an ode the orisha.

Yoruba culture is expressive, deep, meaningful and rich. I want to bring to life the old and modern-day Yoruba lexicon. The brand is bespoke, it's personality is bold, strong, classy and elegant. It is creative and intuitive, confident in its DNA.
